ATM asked the question, “What do we really need?” Morgan Andrews and I played several characters who encounter an insightful (sometimes sassy) Automatic Teller Machine able to tell and provide what the user really needed, more than money. Each visitor to the ATM met an object or character who fulfilled their deeper needs, which, conveniently always started with the letters A, T, M. For example, a shopkeeper espousing war in the name of patriotism gets a taste of America’s Tough Muscles; a pirate with a foul smell stuck in his nose gets an Aromatic Therapeutic Moustache. The machine provides Thaddeus, a pensive and withdrawn coffee shop regular, with an Actual Tiny Manatee, which solves his struggles at work (he’s a manatee breeder at the local aquarium, threatened with being fired.) At last, the ATM becomes what we all need sometimes, an Amazing Time Machine, and flies off with the characters inside…
