Inside Unknown

Inside Unknown
Performed at the: Black Sheep Puppet Festival in Pittsburgh
And in Philly at the First Person Arts Festival
and Puppet Uprising
Fall 2009

This puppet show addressed both the Republican hype surrounding Obama as the “unknown” and my anticipation of the “unknown” child I was preparing to birth. It focused on not filling the absence of surety with assumptions or fear. It asked the age old question, “Canned corn or Unicorn?” I removed layers of clothes while receiving a collect call from the future, birthed a series of characters and objects (from a paper-mâché stomach), enjoyed the support and musical accompaniment of three futuristic midwives, performed a winged maternity dance, and dove through a hole in the back of my suitcase into the unknown.
