Rare Wildlife

Rare Wildlife
Fall 2009

I created this installation for The Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild in Pittsburgh.

Visitors to my refuge were able to navigate this fabric habitat with the aid of toilet paper tube binoculars and an illustrated field guide, detailing the habits and humors of the resident beasts. Though static, the space was kept alive with a sound track of nature noises, complete with the sounds of wild critters cavorting. I gave an artist talk attended by the general public and by teens in the MCG after school design program, where I was also teaching a mask and head-piece sculpture workshop.

I’ve set up other incarnations of this installation at the 40th Street Artist In Residence Program (“Friends and Neighbors Show” Winter 2011) and at the Springside School Library (Spring 2011), both in Philadelphia.
